Over the decades, the hardware store remained in continuous operation changing ownership just four times. In 2016, the James Family purchased the hardware store and had the vision to bring a steakhouse to the area. Bob Lebamoff, a third-generation restauranteur, joined them as their owner and operation of Auburn City Steakhouse. Bob shares their vision for Auburn and surrounding communities.
Bob’s father, Tom, was in the restaurant business for 40 years with places like The Elegant Farmer, Ted and Tom’s, and Lambro’s. Bob’s grandfather, Steve Gouloff. was the owner of The Paramount Grill where Bob’s dad got his start.
The James Family wanted to keep as much of the hardware fixtures as they could during the renovation. You may remember the freight elevator, the NCR cash register and the numerous other items displayed and showcased. From the original hardwood floors, leaded glass windows at the entrance, and original tin ceiling, the hardware store story continues. As Bob has said many times, “we opened a museum that happens to have a kitchen in it.”

Fine Dining Steakhouse, Davis & James Lounge, & Private Banquet Facilities
We are happy to offer multiple spaces within our building to meet your dining expectations. On the first floor you will find our main dining room. On the second floor, we offer the Davis & James Lounge for guests 21 and older, and a private banquet room, for larger parties. We are excited to offer two new event spaces, The Executive Room and The Grand Room.
